Functional:

To work closely with the Chief Executive, SIA  Board, Executive Directors and senior leadership team across the SIA, to embed risk, compliance and assurance as key drivers of the SIA’s strategic direction and day to day operations, with a key focus on continuous improvement.  The role will work closely alongside the Head of Strategy and Governance, in ensuring that the governance framework for the SIA is serviced with the right assurances, at the right level, at the right time.

Reporting Relationships:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive[1], this role is part of the SIA’s team of senior leaders.  They will have joint responsibility for contributing to the overall leadership of the SIA and supporting delivery of corporate and strategic objectives.  The post holder will ensure that they work effectively and actively with senior leadership colleagues to ensure that the work of the SIA is delivered in a “joined up” way.

Responsible for audit and compliance, information assurance, project assurance, complaints and information requests, and quality monitoring functions.

The job holder will have direct line management responsibilities for around 5 individuals, with an overall responsibility for a team of circa 10 -12  staff (this may change over time within the published spans of control).  Delegated budget responsibility for an annual function budget of c£0.7m.

This role may report into an Executive Director in the future

Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Experience of operating at senior leadership levels in an organisation, with the ability and experience of building strong, positive working relationships
  • Strong people leadership skills, able to build and lead brilliant teams through your ability to coach, inspire, and empower expert teams
  • Ability to think strategically, as well as a strong analytical skillset when making decisions
  • Ability to build and maintain strong positive relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, with good negotiating and influencing skills and the ability to create connections and drive shared responsibilities
  • Results orientatated with experience of managing and building successful teams to support operational delivery, providing high-quality work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to understand and communicate complex information to a wide range of people

Essential (role specific)

  • A solid understanding of good risk management and the impact this has on the effective and efficient business delivery
  • A good understanding of Internal and External Audit processes and the importance of reliable and credible
  • A good understanding of effective Information Assurance.
  • A good understanding of the governance requirements of a regulator, including the Better Regulation principles and functional standards (or equivalent in the other sectors).
  • Ability to work under own initiative,  with a good understanding of customer service principles and how to apply those to support functions

Desirable

  • A relevant professional qualification in either risk management, quality assurance or internal audit.
  • Experience of managing flexible teams, including remote, virtual and geographically dispersed environment.

Location

The role is based at our Head Office in Canary Wharf, London, with the expectation of 1-2 days office days a week, with flexible working arrangements available. Occasional travel within the UK may be required.
