What you’ll do…

We are seeking a Staff Level Software Engineer with a focus on Search Indexing and Technical Leadership. This role requires a combination of technical proficiency in search indexing, software development, and leadership skills.


About Team:
Focusing on customer, associate and business needs, this team works with Walmart International, which includes more than 5,200 retail units, operating in 23 countries such as Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Mexico and South Africa to name a few.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of indexing systems that power our search infrastructure, ensuring they meet the organization’s technical and business requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership within the team, guiding the development process, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define search requirements, design solutions, and drive the implementation plan.
  • Leverage your expertise in search indexing to improve efficiency, relevance, and speed of our search systems.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in search indexing technologies and evaluate their potential application within our organization.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in software engineering, search algorithms, and data structures within the team.
  • Act as a key decision-maker in technical matters related to search indexing, influencing the strategic direction of our search systems.

What you’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a software engineer, with a focus on search indexing.
  • Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role, mentoring and guiding a team of engineers.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++, and experience with search indexing frameworks like Apache Lucene, Elasticsearch, or Solr.
  • Strong understanding of search algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Minimum: Bachler’s + 5 years industry experience.
  • Preferred : Master’s + 5 years industry experience.
