INTRODUCTION
The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) is a 100% state-owned
corporation incorporated on 2nd December, 2008 under the Company’s Act, Cap 486 as a State
Corporation pursuant to the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy. The Mandate of the
Company is to plan, design, construct, own, operate and maintain high voltage electricity
transmission grid and regional power interconnectors.
KETRACO’s Vision is to provide a Stable Power Grid that will Transform Lives in the Region
and Beyond. The Mission of the Company is to provide a stable electricity grid and facilitate
power trade for sustainable socio-economic development.

Reports to Senior Engineer, Real Time Operations
Job Purpose
This job is responsible for undertaking quality and reliable delivery of bulk electrical energy
to the consumer at ALL times and respects commercial and technical obligations of the TSO
as per the generation plan.
Key Responsibilities of the Graduate Engineer
i). Maintaining allowable frequency range as per the Kenya National Transmission Grid
Code (KNTGC) & EAPP (IC);
ii). Maintaining system voltages at all busses within the required range as per the Kenya
National Transmission Grid Code (KNTGC) & EAPP (IC);
iii). Ensuring optimal generation dispatch guided the merit order of dispatch;
iv). Keeping track of status and assignments of reactive power equipment in the system;
v). Capturing machines dispatch and output records for system performance reporting;
vi). Logging all relevant system events according to the Operations Procedures and
management directives;
vii). Implementing real-time actions that ensure the reliable operation of the National
Transmission Grid;
viii). Working in conjunction with Transmission management engineer on duty desk for a
cohesive shift output;
ix). Working in conjunction with other departments and sections of the company,
generators, Transmission Operators (TOs) interconnected TSOs in all matters of
common interest to ensure the security and stability of the national and interconnected
power system;
x). Working in conjunction with KPLC’s Regional Shift Controllers in matters involving
the operation of their respective 11kV, 33kV and/or 66kV networks so as to maintain
the integrity of the system;
xi). Capturing and reporting all events occurring in the National Transmission Grid (fault
or incident causing loss of supplies) in accordance with the existing operational
procedures and working instructions;
xii). Preparing reports regarding system performance at the end of every shift;
xiii). Undertaking the required internal and external training requirements and
certifications;
Qualifications & Skills Required
i). Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
ii). Graduate Member of EBK;
iii). Graduate Member of IEK;
iv). A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience.
Working conditions -Control room and Office setting.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS

c) Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
d) Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
e) Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
