BME High School Internship Program

Gain hands-on experience in biomedical engineering the summer before your senior year through our paid, award-winning, six-week internship program in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Minnesota.

Application materials

  1. STEM teacher recommendation (under 200 words)
  2. Resume
  3. Personal statement/cover letter (under 500 words) describing (1) how you satisfy the qualifications for this program, (2) your interest in biomedical engineering, and (3) two BME faculty members whose work interests you and why.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age as of the first day of the program.
  • Rising senior in high school.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (international students are not eligible to apply).
  • Students with experience or dedication to diversity and inclusion.
  • Punctual and responsible.

Preferred requirements

  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Interest in biomedical engineering, biology, medicine, or related fields (math, science, programming).
